Solos/ICE Rink

Last season ICE introduced solos & duos to our competitions. This season we are continuing to offer solos & duos with a wider range of divisions. At our Cheer & Dance events, compete solo/duo in Pom, Jazz, Contemporary, Hip Hop and Cheer (subject to availability). And at your Dance-only events there are 2 additional categories; Acro& Lyrical. We are so excited to bring these categories to the competition and can’t wait to see more solo & duo performances this season.

Solos/duos are available at all Dance-only events, and at Cheer & Dance events, time permitting*. Solo/duo availability at Cheer & Dance events will be released after the on time deadline has passed.

*Solos and duos are available at Spring Thaw Out, Newport.

  • TINY and MINI solos/duos will have all their skills capped at level 2. Any level 3-5 skills performed will be considered to be attempting to gain a competitive advantage and will receive an out-of-level safety infraction.
  • All other solos/duos (YOUTH, JUNIOR, SENIOR, OPEN) will be allowed to showcase all skills up to and including level 5.
  • Solo/duo routines are up to 1 minute and 15 seconds long.

  • The solos/duos will be scored both on the difficulty and execution of tumbling skills, jumps and any dance/choreography content, alongside performance and crowd appeal. As with any cheer division, the execution and safety of difficult tumbling skills must be considered when including them in solo routines. The score sheets will be available to coaches through the Coaches Corner area of the ICE Website.
  • There will be Grand Champions of Solos awarded.
  • An email will be sent to the highest cheer soloist, informing them of a bid to the ICE Championships to compete for ICE Prince/Princess & ICE King/Queen.

The Ice Rink

At ICE we strive to give everybody the opportunity to perform. For those competitors who are not able to compete in the choreographed solo section we have introduced a knockout-style tournament. The ICE Rink is offered in Pom, Jazz/Contemporary, Hip Hop and Cheer (Cheer is not offered at dance-only events). See information below:

  • Athletes will be able to buy a number from reception for £5 to enter The Ice Rink – our unchoreographed solo category.
  • This event will be time-permitting and may not run at all events. Promotion will be given during the event if it will be running to allow for athletes and coaches to purchase a number in good time.
  • Specifics of music will not be released.
  • This is a perfect opportunity to build dancers’ confidence performing solo, while having the comfort of others around them.
  • The event will run in knockout rounds, leaving a top three. Each round, multiple dancers will be eliminated, leaving the finalists in the last round.
  • Cheer ICE Rink (not available at dance-only events) will have 5 competitors per round, one per mat for safety reasons.
