Who will be crowned ICE KING or QUEEN for season 2017-2018.

New to ICE this season, we have opportunities to compete as a Soloist in Jazz/Lyrical/Contemporary, Pom, Hip Hop or Cheerleading. We are so excited to bring these new categories to the competition. Below is some more information about Solos and how you could earn the title ICE King or ICE Queen this season!

Solos – A guide!

Cheer solos

All cheer solos will work to the USASF age grids and will be offered in the standard age groups (the age of the athlete on 31st August 2017 will determine their age for the whole of the ICE season including Pontins):
Tiny – age 3-6
Mini – age 7-8
Youth – age 9-11
Junior – age 12-14
Senior – age 15-16
Open – age 17+

TINY and MINI soloists will have all their skills capped at USASF level 2. Any level 3-5 skills performed will be considered to be attempting to gain a competitive advantage, and will receive an Out-of-Level Safety Infraction.
All other soloists (YOUTH, JUNIOR, SENIOR, OPEN) will be allowed to showcase all skills up to and including USASF Level 5.
Solo routines are 1 minute and 15 seconds long.

Each program will be allowed to enter one cheer solo per age group (so the most one program can enter would be six cheer solos, one in each age division from tiny through to open).
The solos will be scored both on the difficulty and execution of tumbling skills, jumps and any dance/choreography content, alongside performance and crowd appeal. As with any cheer division, the execution and safety of difficult tumbling skills must be considered when including them in solo routines. The scoresheets will be available to coaches through the Coaches Corner area of the ICE Website.

There will be Grand Champions of Solos awarded – the highest solo score awarded across the board in two groups:
Tiny, Mini and Youth – who will qualify for the chance to compete at Pontins to be crowned the ICE Prince/Princess
Junior, Senior and Open – who will qualify for the chance to compete at Pontins to be crowned the ICE King/Queen
The highest cheer solo of the entire event (ONE soloist) will be invited to the Pontins Weekender to compete to be crowned the overall ICE King/Queen. (Therefore, if all participants from each event accepted their offer to compete at Pontins, there would be 10 participants).

A letter will be sent to the highest cheer solo informing and congratulating them on their Bid with all the necessary details for entering Pontins.

Dance solos (choreographed)

All dance solos will work to the USASF age grids and will be offered in the standard age groups (the age of the athlete on 31st August 2017 will determine their age for the whole of the ICE season including Pontins):

Tiny – age 6 and younger
Mini – age 9 and younger
Youth – age 12 and younger
Junior – age 15 and younger
Senior – age 16 and older

Solo routines are 1 minute and 15 seconds long.

Dance solos will be offered in Pom, Jazz (encompassing Contemporary and Lyrical too), and Hip-Hop.
Each program will be allowed to enter one dance solo per age group per dance style (so the most one program can enter would be fifteen solos, one in each age division from tiny through to senior, in each of the three dance styles).
The solos will be scored both on the difficulty and execution of skills, and choreography content, alongside performance and crowd appeal/musicality. Scoresheets will be available to coaches through the Coaches Corner area of the ICE Website.

There will be Grand Champions of Dance Solos awarded – the highest solo score awarded across the board, in each dance style, in two age groups:

Tiny, Mini and Youth – who will be crowed the Prince/Princess of their event (one for Pom, one for Jazz, one for Hip Hop)
Junior, Senior and Open – who will be crowned the King/Queen of their event (one for Pom, one for Jazz, one for Hip Hop)

The highest dance solo(s) of the entire event (ONE soloist in each of the three dance styles) will be invited to the Pontins Weekender to compete to be crowned the ICE King/Queen of their chosen dance style. (Therefore, if all participants from each event accepted their offer to compete at Pontins, there would be 10 Pom participants, 10 Jazz participants, and 10 Hip Hop participants).

A letter will be sent to the highest dance soloists informing and congratulating them on their Bid with all the necessary details for entering Pontins.

The Ice Rink – freestyle dance solos

Athletes will be able to buy a number from the front desk for £5 to enter The Ice Rink – our freestyle dance solo category.

This event will be time permitting and may not run at all events. Promotion will be given during the event if it will be running to allow for athletes and coaches to purchase a number in good time.

A music BPM will be released in advance to coaches, but specifics of music will not be released beyond this.
The event will run like a knockout round, leaving one winner. Specifics of the knockout stages will be different at each event, depending on number of entries (i.e. some events may need to run rounds, and invite promising dancers from individual rounds to battle in the final if there are lots of entries on the day).

The winner will be invited to attend the Pontins Weekender to compete for the chance to become the ICE King/Queen of The Ice Rink.
